At first, the builder offered us the chance to make changes, but once we saw the stunning selections, we didn’t want to alter a single thing. We worked with Katherine Mueller design on a casita interior and it came out better than we ever could have imagined. I was worried about everything looking good together and am so happy that we went with professionals to help.

In our initial meeting, I was impressed by Katie. It was clear that she really understood the project and what we were trying to accomplish (how we would use the space, how we wanted it to tie into our main house, etc ).

I sent in some inspiration photos and when we went in for our design presentation, she and Christa completely nailed it. Katie, Lissa and every other team member listened to our thoughts and helped us realize a beautiful refreshed home. Katie and the team were easy to work with; we had a great working relationship with everyone. The team served as guides to various options for fixtures, fabrics, tile, and colors. Every detail was considered, documented, and any issues resolved.

We returned to our home with the furniture in place, accessories put out and the art hung. Much of our existing accessories and art were re-used; perhaps in a different place, but always placed in a manner to accent them.

I’ve known Katie since our college days, and when it came time to renovate my 1958 Hallcraft home in Scottsdale, she was the first person I thought of for trusted advice.

I had followed the evolution of her business and admired the stunning projects she’s completed over the years. After catching up and sharing my vision, Katie graciously offered to take on my renovation—and I couldn’t have been more thrilled.

This home has been my little dream for years, and I came into the project with plenty of ideas. From day one, Katie listened closely and truly understood my vision. She brought fresh, creative solutions to long-standing issues—like incorporating more natural light into my dark dining room and reimagining an underused corner into a stylish and functional bar area perfect for entertaining and extra storage.

Through the process, I was also introduced to Christa from Katie’s team—an absolute godsend. Christa created the drawings and stunning renderings that helped me visualize the transformation. She was kind, patient, and had an incredible ability to ease my worries and guide me through decisions with care and clarity.

Katie also matched me with the perfect contractor for the job. Bob was nothing short of amazing—responsive, reliable, and always just a call or text away. He sent daily progress videos and ensured everything stayed on track. From start to finish, the entire renovation was completed in just four months.

Working with Katie and her team was, hands down, the easiest and best decision I could have made. Katie is not only passionate about design but also genuinely invested in giving each of her clients the best possible experience. We were new to Desert Mountain and feeling overwhelmed with updating our home.

After living in our townhome for a couple winters I decided it needed some major updates.

I set up appointments with two different interior designers. The first appointment was with Katherine Mueller. Katherine arrived at my home and she and I spent about an hour together. She listened to needs, my ideas and my concerns. We walked around my home and Katherine got a real feel for what was needing to be done. She came up with reasonable ideas where I thought none were available. She walked me through what her process would be and what the contractor’s process would entail. Part of my concern was having the renovations take place while I was out of state. Katherine assured me that that process runs smoothly.She told me that if I choose to work with her design firm, I would be working with her and also one of her design consultants. As we talked further about the whole project, I could tell Katherine was really listening to me. She knew exactly what I was wanting and needing.

Katherine left my home and I had a really good feeling. I promptly cancelled the appointment with the second designer. I called Katherine’s office and told them I wanted to work with her firm. Katherine and Christa (Interior Designer & 3-D Modeling Specialist) couldn’t have been easier to work with. From the zoom calls, to the selection process, everything was so easy. They were in constant contact with me. Christa understood the scope of the project and offered a number of ideas. Christa worked closely with the project manager and kept me updated on everything.

I have to say this was one of the most rewarding projects I have ever been involved with. My husband and I have built a few homes and done some renovating. Working with Katherine Mueller Design was such a pleasure. The project turned out beautifully. Katherine and Christa were amazing to work with. My husband and I were building a new home in Albuquerque, New Mexico and looking for a designer that could give us something extraordinary. After seeing the beautiful work Katie & her team did with our friend’s home in Scottsdale, we knew they were the right design team for our project!

Working with Katherine Mueller Design was one of the best decisions we ever made.

We recently embarked on a major remodel of our home and yard, and without their knowledge and expertise, our final vision wouldn’t have been possible.We had some very specific and intricate design requests, such as a marble and steel inlay in our entrance flooring and high-touch details like custom wall molding and wallpaper. Not only were they able to execute these complex ideas flawlessly, but they also made innovative suggestions that enhanced our vision beyond what we had imagined. Katherine Mueller Design nailed everything—from the tile and stonework to the furniture layout. Their patience, professionalism, and extensive knowledge made the entire process enjoyable, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Talented, Trustworthy and Resourceful Design Firm

When looking for a designer to help us remodel a 1996-era home to be our long-term retirement property, we’d interviewed several other design companies but weren’t finding someone with whom we felt a good fit. Then, we happened upon Katherine Mueller Designs. We contacted Katie and from the initial phone call, we felt like we were working with a trusted friend.

We appreciated her process and approach. We knew we wanted to be hands-on in the process, which some other designers were not as comfortable with. Katie and her team were wonderful to work with, wanting to first understand the outcome we wanted, then being very collaborative in taking our feedback and finding ways to incorporate them into a beautiful overall design to achieve that outcome. While being very open to our ideas, they were not afraid to educate us on why an idea might not be the best option based on our goals and desired outcome, guiding us in a better direction. Seeing some of her turnkey projects for hands-off clients, I’d highly recommend Katie whether you want to be involved with the project or whether you’d rather be completely hands off.

During the design phase, Katie and her team were available face-to-face, over the phone and via email/text, creating and evolving the design, offering resourceful and creative ideas, presenting fun and interesting materials and finishes, driving the process forward while providing updates at each step of the way. Once the design documentation was complete & materials selection documented, Katie and her team joined us meeting with potential contractors to translate the project scope and design vision for them (hugely beneficially in helping the contractors accurately bid the project).

As we reviewed contractor’s bids, the KMD team was incredibly helpful providing guidance for us making decisions on where to spend money to really make an impact, and where we could save money to maximize the bang for our remodeling buck.

Once we’d selected the contractors, the actual construction phase lasted 6 months and without the attention to detail and thoroughness of Katie’s planning, it likely would have lasted much longer. Having Katie and team on site at critical points working directly with the craftsmen was invaluable in ensuring that the design translated from paper to reality efficiently and effectively. As walls were opened and surprises uncovered, Katie found creative and workable solutions to solve for the inevitable unforeseen challenges that arose during construction. The detail of her design and documentation, however, really cut down a lot of potential issues before they arose, or worse created rework.

We love the outcome and enjoyed the process. We would be thrilled to work with Katie and her team on future projects and thank them so much for making what can be a big, disruptive remodeling process extremely manageable and dare we say, even fun!
