Desert Legacy Renewed is a thoughtful reimagining of a beloved Southwest residence, honoring its architectural roots while introducing refined, modern livability. Originally designed by Lee Hutchison of Urban Design Associates, the home carries an enduring sense of place. Our goal was not to reinvent, but to carefully evolve the spaces in a way that respected both the architecture and the client’s deep connection to the home.

We began by preserving many of the original details the clients loved most, allowing the home’s authentic character to remain intact. From there, we introduced updated material surfaces throughout, including new countertops in the kitchen, bathrooms, and bar. These selections were chosen for their quiet sophistication and ability to complement the existing Southwest palette. Throughout the home, new modern Southwest light fixtures were thoughtfully layered in, adding sculptural warmth and helping bridge the original architecture with the updated finishes.

In the kitchen, subtle but meaningful updates created a renewed sense of warmth and cohesion. A new backsplash introduced texture and depth, while the original hood was thoughtfully painted to soften its presence. A custom copper detail was added as a nod to the home’s desert heritage, bringing warmth and artisanal character to the heart of the space.

The primary bathroom reflects our approach of honoring the past while embracing modern refinement. We retained the original vanity cabinetry and mirror, preserving the architectural integrity of the room. To elevate the design, we introduced custom steel mirror holders and updated sconces, adding a tailored, contemporary edge. The tub and shower were fully refreshed with new tile, updated surfaces, and modern hardware, creating a spa-like experience without losing the home’s soul.

Desert Legacy Renewed is a celebration of continuity. By layering thoughtful updates onto a strong architectural foundation, the result is a home that feels both timeless and newly alive.
